There is a theory that the intense experiences of our ancestors, such as migration, leave chemical marks on our DNA: epigenetic memory.
That impulse to seek new horizons and connect with others is the biological legacy of the resilience my grandparents needed to survive.
For a migrant, human interaction is a tool for survival. As an artist, I channel that need for connection to honor the mechanism that brought me here.
By painting interaction, I explore the map of human relationships through an inherited emotional architecture:
Geometry: Represents the order, values, and determination my ancestors carried with them amidst the chaos of their journey.
These shapes suggest "ships"—the vessel of hope and the vehicle of change that allows me to be here today.
Lines: The common thread and universal symbol of destiny.
They act as "umbilical cords" connecting past and present through an invisible web.
Points: The "nodes" of my history—specific people, cities, or pivotal moments of decision. By joining them, I create a cartography of my lineage, ensuring nothing is lost to the void.Representing the journey through abstract forms responds to the need to cling to certainties when the physical environment changes drastically.
My work is not decorative; it is an inherited state of mind: the feeling of always being in transit or ready to set sail toward a better horizon.

While my practice engages with Bauhaus principles—formal clarity, balance, and the use of geometry—it is distinguished by the incorporation of gestural textures that activate negative space. These material surfaces, worked with greater freedom, generate a tension between control and expressiveness.

In contrast, positive space is constructed through defined geometric forms—circles, ovals, triangles, and chromatic planes—organized with structural precision. These forms function as visual units that generate rhythm, hierarchy, and balance within the composition.

The coexistence of textured surfaces and sharp geometric elements establishes a dialogue between gesture and structure. Color, applied in saturated and contrasting planes, acts as an organizing element that guides the eye and reinforces the internal dynamics of the work.

In my various series, I address themes such as human relationships, memory, migration, spirituality, and social issues, translated into an abstract and synthetic language. These references are not presented literally, but rather integrated into the compositional structure through tensions, balances, and connections between forms.

In this series Chiera works with displaced associations of shapes and colours, drawn from graphic design, fashion, history and nature itself, using a variety of methods and materials, from acrylic paint, spray paint, stencils, collage, assemblage and needlework. The paintings themselves have shifting hierarchies of similar concerns: material exploration, abstract identity, formal space and narrative expression. They openly blur the boundary between high art and applied art, not only in principle but in practice, lending themselves to diverse forms of surface design.

This past Saturday, a Belgian couple visited my studio in Senigallia and chose to take home two of my works: Interplay (120 × 95 cm) and Vertical Dialogue (95 × 65 cm).
There is something deeply moving about knowing that my art will now live in a new home, becoming part of someone else’s daily life.
