I was born in a small city in Argentina surrounded by countryside in a family that migrated from Italy. Although my education was marked by Italian culture and without having any indigenous background in my family, my works have some peculiarities of the native ethnicity of these lands, the small marks, dots, lines that extend across the canvas mixed with layers acrylic overlays. With each piece being the forum for continued exploration as countless layers of collage, medium and acrylic paint coalesce to become a finished painting.
Perhaps because I grew up surrounded by nature, by large expanses of land, surrounded by freedom, my works are mostly large.
Even though I studied Interior Design at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, from a very young age I began the path of painting. It was the experience of studying at the Accademia de Arte de Verona, Italy, which made me understand that I wanted to dedicate myself exclusively to this. The most notable particulars of my works are the vivid colours. Although I have tried to paint in neutrals, my heart has its own palette and I cannot make it listen to reason.
I currently live in Ancona, Italy, after having lived in various cities such as Milano, Verona, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Rosario and my hometown Ceres, in Argentina.
In my paintings, I mostly use canvases in large formats. With the use of intense and vivid colours, I commit myself to the entire arduous process of the work.
In my work, cubism and geometric forms populate my large-scale drawings. At first glance, the forms appear purely abstract, but as the eye travels through the plane of the drawing, a subtle narrative begins to suggest itself. It is up to the viewer to foster their own reading through the visual language and compositions of the work.
Working in pencil, charcoal, graphite, oil, and acrylic, I employ a loose, repetitive style of making marks on the unprime natural canvas. These linear strokes, laboriously colour the areas of the paint, creating depth while leaving the canvas still visible. The interaction between positive and negative space, as well as the tactile look of the surface, draws the viewer’s attention. The process is intuitive, but intentional, as I decide to keep the marks and gestures on the surface of the canvas, even the background becomes an entity.
There’s always a feeling in my work, an emotional state.
